Then we’re providing the column letter A and asking RANDBETWEEN to come up with a number to append to that letter A between 1 and the cell number of the last entry in the A column. In our case we’re telling the formula the first number in the range we want to look in: A2. If you don’t feel the need to understand how the formula works, feel free to skip to the next section. If you want to test if the prompts are really random, place your cursor in cell B3 and hit backspace a couple of times, you should see the random prompt in cell B2 randomly change each time. When you hit enter, boom, one of your prompts should appear in cell B2. Now, copy and paste the following formula into cell B2: =index(A2:A,randbetween(1,counta(A2:A))) In cell B1, add the column header ‘Random output’ Next, you need to add a function which will automatically return a random entry from that list of entries in Column A. and so on for as many prompts as you have. Once you’ve done this you should end up with a long list of journal prompts down the far left side of your sheet, in cells A2, A3, A4, etc. Each prompt should be in its own cell of column A. Now copy and paste your journal prompt questions into Column A. I like to format the headers in Bold so they’re easier to distinguish from the content. In cell A1, in the top left-hand side of the Sheet, type the header ‘Prompt’. Once you have your journal prompts, open up a new Google Sheet and give it a title ‘Daily Prompts’. The more you have, the better this will work, but if you don’t have many, it’ll still work. You could use the list of 365 journal prompts I created in this article, or you could create your own list. A Google account with access to Google Sheetsįirst of all, you need to find a list of journal prompts that you’d like to email to yourself every day.To complete this tutorial you’ll need to have: What I’ve tried to do is create an easy, fun and useful way to integrate a couple of different web services using some simple scripting and IFTTT. If at first glance, this tutorial seems really long and difficult, it’s only because I explain stuff in way too much detail.
